Pros

Work from home (although they work you to death). Another "pro", I got out and now have the job of my dreams. Very happy to be outta the snake pit

Cons

Poor pay, dishonest, lacks integrity. I exceeded the required metrics EVERY MONTH, had 100% on all audits with the exception of 2 months (and those months were still exceeding the minimum metric) the entire 3 1/2 years I worked there and received a maximum of 1.039% raise. No, not a typo! Each monthly leadership call entailed bragging about how much money we were making (I worked for MEDICARE!!) while at the same time having to console crying members because they could not afford their $300+ premiums. That's when my conscience got to me. As a nurse, I felt like a traitor working for them and I will always feel that way. Also--I worked 50-60 hours per week and didn't get paid for 15,000 miles of mileage. Again, not a typo. I would not recommend this company to ANY NURSE. Oh and by the way, they replaced the field nurses with community health workers (no medical training--apparently UHC feels they are also above the law).

Pros

-telecommuting -great coworkers -good technology -good PTO accrual -15% off company stock -My personal manager wasnt a weenie like the one you’ll read about below- but he was handicapped by the greater collective mind nonsense

Cons

-“Busted, broken, you do the work now dont ask for rewards” culture this was 2+ years ago so my hope is it changed. This is the way the old CEO ran things and he literally said in an employee all hands dont ask for a promotion or raise just “wait for the rewards” typical nonsense from a multimillionaire trying to contain costs and increase management bonuses -Corporate behemoth where you are but a number -Insecurity in layers upon layers of management, how many “VP Operations” can there be? probably 100s across the enterprise -Silod, inefficient processes -No promotions or true raises for Military and Veterans staff due to poor implementation of govt contract -“We know best!” stuck up mentality by management that only want docile sheep who don’t think or offer ideas. UHG is the biggest and so they dictate the status quo... why change? -Vampire-Squid like tendencies sucking money out of healthcare system (ie charging customers for HSAs on a monthly basis just to keep account open). Poor provider relations, delay paying claims till the last possible second. Its all that way on purpose. -I worked there for 2 years received stellar (highest) five-star reviews from my boss. I was looking for a move up and so I applied for a position internally and was offered the position after interviewing. To my surprise, they LOWERED the title in the job posting (and salary grade... surprise!) when they got around to offering me the job to prevent me from moving up two pay grades. Then the hiring manager and HR emailed me to say “this is how its done, we cap salaries and promotions based on previous pay & role, dont worry about it yadda yadda.” NOPE, I left after 2 years of wasting my life for a company who doesn’t/didn’t deserve me. This type of behavior should be outlawed, but alas, this is American at-will employment in a mega conglomo, take it or leave it. -Be prepared for this type of nonsense from a Fortune 5 company and respect yourself enough to leave...Use them the way they use you. Dont look back. Employment at will is 2 way street! :)

Pros

Good work life balance for those who can telecommute and good culture

Cons

The pay is for the birds. no cost of living increases and the "merit" raises each year are less than the cola adjustment SSI recipients get. It doesn't pay to be loyal to this company
