Smart people, but directionally challenged, and unfocused.

There were still plenty of folks around who were very bright. Lots of clever ideas, and features/ capabilities that later showed up in certain iProducts that were very well received.

Cons

Corp direction was best described as "paint splatter" - not enough synergy between multiple product lines

Pros

Some good people producing carrier class software, adding functionality that customers needed and wanted, and doing some interesting things.

Cons

Many many CEO's (and other C-level executives) over the years meant that direction and focus changed often, eventually leading to elimination of much of the engineering department in reductions. Lots of offshoring leading to lack of internal resources with product knowledge.
