Pros

Steady, reliable work and pay. Benefits are good and you do get a pension.

Cons

The schedule is really rough, for the most part, but you do get used to that. Working with the public leaves you open to dealing with all kinds of people, where you have little to no support from management when one of them crosses a line, like spits on you. You’re basically at the mercy of the public. Standards are very high for “reliability” and the management isn’t interested in what happened as long as they can say they talked to you. In my department many of us are living in fear for our jobs because turnover is so high all the time due to bad management.

Pros

Great money and I love driving and those I drive for (the passengers).

Cons

Well for a part time person there are a lot. You have the same rules and regulations as a full time driver but absolutely no benefits or ability to earn benefits. Even paid holidays or vacations. Id like to work full time but because the routes are all seniority based even though I have been driving for UTA for several years if I moved to full time I would be treated and get the same schedule as someone who literally just started. and let me say that when you are new (maybe up to two years) you can be scheduled with several split shifts (2-4) different routes a day (not the same routes every day either) You have different routes at different times everyday so you cant plan anything at all because you wont know your shift for the next day until 5PM the previous evening. If you are single or live really close to one of the bus garages this might not matter but if you want to plan a life with your family you really cant because you have no idea when or where you are working.
