Thank you for sharing this feedback. We’re glad to hear you experienced strong teamwork, an organized workplace, and positive client interactions, and we also take concerns around leadership and workload seriously. At VCA, we are committed to supporting Associates through clear expectations, thoughtful communication, and ongoing investment in leadership development, staffing support, and wellbeing resources. As part of the Mars Veterinary Health family, we continue to invest in programs that support Associates personally and professionally, including leadership training and access to mental health and wellbeing resources designed for veterinary teams. We remain focused on listening, reinforcing our standards, and continuing to evolve the Associate experience so teams feel supported, respected, and empowered to do their best work.

Pros

Pay and benefits are competitive

Cons

Toxic, catty work environment. The managers are bullies who will retaliate if you so much as try to assert a boundary. Chronically understaffed by design: management knows there aren't enough support staff, but also isn't hiring. Deeply unsupportive and toxic

Thank you for sharing this feedback. We take concerns about leadership behavior, respect, and psychological safety seriously, and we recognize that feeling unable to assert boundaries can be deeply discouraging. At VCA, we continue to invest in leadership development and ongoing training to help create thoughtful, compassionate leadership across our hospitals. Just as importantly, we work to build strong care teams by prioritizing a healthy support‑staff‑to‑doctor ratio and by growing, developing, and fully using the skills of our technicians so everyone feels valued and supported in their role. Our goal is always to create workplaces where people feel comfortable speaking up, confident in the care they provide, and supported by the team around them. Feedback like this matters to us as we continue strengthening the Associate experience and caring for those who care for pets.

Hospital team is great and works hard

Cons

Low pay for field. Only allowed to have bare minimum staff or leas but upper leadership expects high quality medicine for low pay

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We understand how discouraging it can feel to be underpaid or under‑recognized, and we take concerns like this seriously. At VCA, we continue to invest in a comprehensive Total Rewards program designed to support Associates both professionally and personally. This includes competitive compensation, medical and financial benefits, paid time off, professional development opportunities, and well‑being resources such as mental‑health support. We are also focused on strengthening recognition and performance conversations so Associates feel seen and valued for the important work they do. Your perspective helps guide these ongoing efforts, and we appreciate you taking the time to share it.
