Pros

You need a job and nothing else is working out? ...go for it. But learn and get what you can for as short a time as you can...and GET OUT! Don't get sucked in the Antech/VCA culture.

Cons

Expensive health care. More work; lesser pay. Too much to hope for employee appreciation. Hard workers either gets burned out or becomes scape goats. Not much of any training. You have to practically teach yourself. Accountability for all...none for management. Errors and problems (which is rampant) are fixed by simply firing employees instead of proper training. No employee retention program.

Pros

Great employee discount, decent doctors to work with, they will train you if you have no experience. Because it is a corporate environment, they are sticklers for policy and protocol. This is a good way to learn the "right way" of doing things. They are very concerned with legality issues.

Cons

Awful management, crummy pay, having to stick to corporate "policy". You are only seen as a body instead of a person. They can and will replace you with someone else.. and they don't give a hoot!

Pros

The hospital's in a nice area, and the doctors (who were there before the buyout) are excellent.

Cons

We got bought out. That in itself is demoralizing. The irony of watching a video about going the extra mile in customer service, (termed "giving them the pickle") then being told we were no longer sending flowers to long term clients whose pets had died, because it costs too much. Selling less effective flea control because it's cheaper, and having to change recommendations every 8 months because management found something cheaper elsewhere. DOS based practice management software, anyone? The benefits aren't comparable to other practices around here. Yes, we get insurance, but we pay several hundred a month, where other hospitals around here cover $200 of the insurance, and you pay the difference. This may be the case with VCA, but it's hard to tell. VCA does a lot of cost cutting , seemingly at the expense of patient care, ie variety of medicines, treatments available.
