Pros

Decent pay, Doctors working there are excellent and want to be successful in their roles in treating patients and for the most part want to have busy, successful practices.

Cons

Leadership has changed significantly in the last two years who have made the atmosphere more hostile and feel very distant from the staff to the leadership. The rule of law seems to be fear and not collaboration. There are also absolutely atrocious directors who do not lead nor give direction to their employees. Some of the Directors/Managers are not qualified to be in their roles and are causing a lot of turnover. The entire culture and morale went from being very high to everyone barely hanging on by a thread almost overnight. It has been this way for more than a year, and many managers, physicians, and staff have left because of this.

Pros

I have nothing to say in here.

Cons

People are being fired left and right. Morale is very low. Lots of politics.

Pros

Hospitalists are supportive of Case management and great to work with.

Cons

Work life balance is exceptionally poor. 10 hour days are a regular expectation. Position is salaried with near 0 hour flexibility to leave early to make up even 30 minutes. Utilization review- you will be asked to approve base on md preference IP for cases that are clearly OBS on Medicare criteria. Management can be unprofessional with interactions with staff. There had been massive turnover in the department in the past year- more than 60%- not one thing has changed and HR has done 0 investigation or exit interviews. You will work weekends and holidays for nothing alongside staff that are making time and a half. Staffing assignments are not equal and punish the stronger Staff. Feedback is listened to, but rarely any action. Extended time off is difficult to get- you may are likely to end up with partial approval of your vacation with the expectation you work the Monday’s or Fridays. The morale in the hospital is horrible. Most staff is very unhappy. Most units have an average experience of under 1 year.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. While I am happy to hear that you felt supported by our Hospitalists, I am concerned by your comments about your experience overall. We take our workplace culture very seriously and our goal is always to foster a supportive working environment. I would love to discuss your concerns in greater detail. If you are open to that, please feel free to reach out to me directly at jeffdilisiMD@virginiahospitalcenter.com -- Jeff DiLisi, MD, Senior Vice President & Chief Medical Officer
