      - Political middle-management organization - Unclear roles and responsibilities - Communication is not consistant, clear and wide spread - Processes and policy lacking - HR is unresponsive - Too many senior dirs/first level VPs are unbelivably political and rude

      Pros

      The front line is made up of incredibly smart and talented people. The technology is fantastic, and well-recognized in the industry.

      Cons

      VMware is a textbook example of what happens when a company grows from a couple hundred to thousands of employees without ever putting processes in place. The original guard has transformed into bloated middle management, and they all have fiefdoms that run just differently enough to ensure communication between them is frustrating and unproductive.

      Changing for the worse

      Pros

      Salary is decent enough. A chance to work for a company with disruptive technology. It's better than being unemployed.

      Cons

      Exec staff cares nothing about the employees. Bennies are cut right and left. Lack of coherent product and corporate marketing efforts. For a company with 6000 employees, there's an overabundance of Director/Sr. Director/VP/Exec VP types. There are Directors reporting to Directors.
