      Pros

      1. Extremely smart co-workers. 2. Very interesting and challenging work. 3. Very flexible work environment. 4. Great work-life balance. 5. Top class benefits (great health insurance, 401k matching, ESPP, etc.) 6. Employees are empowered to make their own decisions and have a significant impact on the products. There is no micro-management. 7. Innovation is highly encouraged and rewarded. 8. Plenty of opportunities for learning and career growth. 9. Merit based compensation and recognition of hard work.

      Cons

      The only downside of working at VMware is that Palo Alto and surrounding cities have extremely expensive housing. So if you are relocating from another state where you own a large house, you may be in for a shock.

      Not much structure or process. If you thrive in creating order and structure out of a bit of chaos (at times) - then this is the place to be

      - Great Technology - Smart engineers - Market Momentum/acceptance by customers Virtualization is a unique and exciting technology that is being embraced by customers. Customers love the product since it is so robust and provides them with ROI benefits that they could have only dreamed of.

      Cons

      Marketing is not a core competency in VMware at the moment. It is an engineering driven company where marketing has not had a place by virtue of the company being in a unique market-leading position - marketing needs to be developed as a proficiency as competitive pressures mount
