Pros

I am a long tenured colleague (10+ years) and have been provided so many opportunities throughout my employment. I appreciate our mission, co-workers, focus on continuous improvement and the willingness of our regional and corporate leaders to listen to individual perspectives.

Cons

It takes a really long time to get through the credentialing and background check process of our government clients.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience—and for your more than 10 years of service to Valor Healthcare. We truly appreciate your dedication and the perspective that comes with such long tenure. It’s wonderful to hear that the mission, opportunities for growth, and commitment to continuous improvement have made a positive impact throughout your journey. We’re especially glad that you’ve felt heard and supported by both regional and corporate leadership. Staying connected to the field and listening to colleague feedback is something we believe is essential to building a stronger organization and better serving those who depend on us. We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding the credentialing and background check process. Because many of our partnerships involve government clients, some portions of onboarding and credentialing are outside of our direct control, but we understand how frustrating delays can be. We continue working closely with our partners and internal teams to improve communication, streamline processes where possible, and better support colleagues during that waiting period. Thank you again for your continued commitment, feedback, and all that you do in service of our mission.

Great PTO and W/L balance, but poor pay and culture

Pros

Great PTO Solid work-life balance

Cons

Culture has taken a hit in the past year or so. A variety of things impact that, but in general leadership tends to be pretty tone deaf to feedback. They have several channels to reach out to them, but if you do it generally is met with vague responses that don’t actually take responsibility or indicate any effort to will be made to improve. Also, they always make it a point to tell you that they don’t do cost-of-living increases, they do merit increases. But what this actually means is that your merit increases are tiny. I mean half of what a normal cost of living increase would be best case scenario. They talk a lot about how Valor is growing, but I have seen no indication that anyone other than the people at the very top are going to benefit from said growth. It’s disappointing because it used to feel like a very positive place and now it feels like everyone is working a dead end job. A lot of people care deeply about the mission (rightly so), but despite the fact that Valor is a for-profit company, they treat their employees as though it’s a nonprofit company and make excuses for never improving pay, benefits, or general work environment. If you’re looking for solid PTO and work life balance this can be a great place to land, as long as you’re not too worried about pay. Once you’re hired, it won’t be long before you are being paid below market.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback. We appreciate the honesty behind it. We’re glad to hear that PTO and work-life balance have remained positives in your experience. We feel passionately that our colleagues should enjoy true balance and we’re thrilled that that has aligned with your experience at Valor. At the same time, we recognize that those things alone do not make up for feeling undervalued, unheard, or concerned about compensation and long-term growth. Your comments around leadership communication, feedback fatigue, and concerns about compensation are not things we want colleagues to feel dismissed over. We understand why it can be discouraging when organizational growth does not feel like it is translating into meaningful improvements for the people doing the work every day. We also recognize the point you made about mission-driven work. Caring deeply about Veterans and believing in the mission should exist alongside a workplace where colleagues feel supported, respected, and able to grow professionally and financially. Feedback like this is important and is part of the broader conversations happening around colleague experience, communication, and retention. If you would be open to sharing additional feedback, ideas for improvement, or examples directly, we encourage you to reach out to HR at hr@valorhealthcare.com. We appreciate you sharing both the positives and the areas where you believe the organization needs to improve.

Opportunities to learn overshadowed by stagnant growth and pay cuts

Pros

- Provides opportunities to take on new tasks or responsibilities, which can help build experience and expand skill sets. - Exposure to a variety of duties for those open to learning on the job.

Cons

-Limited career advancement opportunities despite ongoing messaging about company growth and new contracts. -Growth in business has not been matched with increased staffing or internal promotion pathways. -Cost-cutting measures appear to impact employees directly, particularly in compensation, benefits, and work flexibility. -Benefits have declined over time, including removal of fully employer-covered medical plan option, reduced employer HSA contributions, and increased deductibles and co-pays without meaningful enhancements. -Retirement benefits, including 401(k) match, are not competitive. -Compensation is generally below market rates for similar roles. -Reduction in flexible work arrangements over time. -Lack of formal bonus or incentive structure for employees below the director level.

Thank you for taking the time to share this—it’s clear you put real thought into your feedback, and we don’t take that lightly. We’re glad to hear there are opportunities here to take on new responsibilities and build experience. At the same time, we hear the frustration around growth not translating into clearer career paths, competitive pay, or consistent support. That gap between what’s communicated and what’s felt day to day is important, and it’s something we need to keep addressing. Your comments around benefits, flexibility, and staffing—especially for support teams—are also important. Those areas directly impact workload, morale, and retention, and we understand how changes over time can feel like a step in the wrong direction. We also appreciate the specificity in your advice. Clearer career pathways, more intentional planning, and aligning staffing with growth are all areas that matter—not just for the organization, but for the people doing the work every day. If you’re open to it, we’d genuinely value a more detailed conversation. You can always reach us at hr@valorhealthcare.com. Thank you again for sharing your perspective.
