Pros

New industry, fast paced, cannabis clients.

Cons

Vangst will hire quick and lay people off even faster. Lots of unnecessary drama similar to a high school. Vangst has burned through a lot of money trying to develop a “platform” while trying to weather the storm of a volatile cannabis market. Hard to make any commission when the core business is on the decline and when the “platform” isn’t able to be sold. Needs to pivot soon or there won’t be a company.

Thanks for taking the time to review your experience with Vangst on Glassdoor. We know Glassdoor plays an important role in helping prospective candidates get a feel for what it’s like to work at Vangst, so your feedback means a lot to us. We definitely are a fast-paced, cannabis-obsessed company that is part of a new and growing industry, and we’re happy that this is something you valued during your time at Vangst! That said, we’re sorry to hear that other aspects of your experience didn’t work for you. Like most other companies in 2020, Vangst was not immune to reductions in workforce, but we’re committed to growing our business and our product in a way that continues to meet the evolving needs and demands of today’s and tomorrow’s cannabis market. Like you mentioned, this is a fast-paced industry and we’re committed to thoughtful innovation! If you want to talk more about your experience at Vangst with our People Team, we’d love to get in touch. Please feel free to reach out any time to continue the conversation. -Karson p.p. Pros

Your immediate team may consist of some great people.

Cons

The main focus at Vangst is to please investors, even at the cost of losing great people. If you interview to work directly with the Vangst team, ask about their company culture and why they have so much turnover (something that should've been a red flag for me from the beginning). An Indeed review for this company explains it well and still holds true titled; "not a place to build a career". If you enjoyed the pettiness of high school this might be the place for you where nepotism and favoritism are a huge issue and far too common. Their lackluster sales team is unable to successfully generate leads for the staffing team, and when they do secure a few positions, those roles only go to a specific group of recruiters and are not dispersed appropriately. They hired a new Sales Director who only seemed to assist in the downfall instead of taking accountability for his failed leadership. With more of the companies they service realizing they can save tons of money by hiring internal recruiters/staffing teams on their own, this business may not survive unless they make some drastic changes.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective on Vangst and your time working with us. We're working every day to build a culture that works for everybody — from our own staff to those we recruit and the clients we recruit for. As a startup, we're bringing unique solutions to a one-of-a-kind industry with complexities many struggle to understand. There will be bumps in the road. We will continue to grow our team and processes in ways that service our employees, clients and the cannabis industry.

Forget merit, it's all about being the boss's buddy!

Pros

The compensation package was the only highlight of working at this company

Cons

Favoritism was widespread in the company. If you weren't part of the boss's close-knit group of favorites, you had little chance of getting a fair opportunity for anything. Promotions, benefits, and special treatment were all reserved for those who were in the boss's good graces. Everyone else was left to struggle and fend for themselves, no matter how hard they worked or how capable they were.
