Pros

Vanguard is a place where hard work is rewarded and professional growth is strongly encouraged. Overall compensation (pay/benefits) do not get much better. Training is above average to very good. Vanguard holds itself to very high standards and generally meets or exceeds all of these standards.

Cons

Base salary is not great but the partnership program and benefits more than make up for this. Depending on the business area, training may leave something to be desired but improvements are constantly being made. Employees are not reprimanded as long as they do nothing "wrong" even if they are detrimental to morale. It seems as though some members of management may give into those who are detrimental to morale in the interest of avoiding conflict.

Pros

The benefits are the only reason to work for Vanguard. Vanguard also has a fairly comprehensive training and development program to train new hires.

Cons

The managers are completely incompetent. The managers treat their workers with no respect. The way to become a manager at Vanguard is based on the number of years wirk experience you have- not on your intellect.

Pros

The best thing about Vanguard is the job security even in turbulent market conditions and the ability to have a life outside of the firm. The company had great benefits and prestige about it unmatched in the financial industry due to their ethical treatment of customers.

Cons

While Vanguard treats their customers with respect and dignity this is not always the case with their employees. Raises and promotions were often given based on non-contribution related items such as popularity and school ties. Intelligence had nothing to do with promotions as most of their intelligent employees seemed to leave for other companies once they had some experience under their belts for better positions.
