Pros

Company encourages community involvement to generate positive media coverage. Working here early in your career looks good on your resume.

Cons

Performance-ranking system is very subjective. Focus is on making sure people like you, not results. Older workers are being forced out so the company can avoid paying retirement benefits. Company refuses to respond to claims for unemployment coverage by former employees. Use of The Gallup Organization's 12-question survey to monitor employee engagement results in more work if employee ratings are low. Management wants you to have a "best friend at work" but when you need support (e.g., serious illness or death in family), best friends and management aren't there for you. Crew Relations department exists to support the Company, not the Crew (employees). If you are called into Crew Relations, you are presumed to be guilty of whatever charge is made against you.

Pros

Vanguard built an on-site medical center for employees which was a great idea, but it also was created so employees never have to leave their desks.

Cons

I worked for Vanguard for 7 years. I started on the phones and worked my way up to project manager. For the first 3 years I loved working for the company then there was a shift in management. Employees were interchangeable and work was outsourced to India. People were forced to retire or be "managed out." The culture was poisonous. Typical life-draining corporate environment. When Bogle ran the company Vanguard cared about its employees and clients now it is just another financial company. Work elsewhere unless you are a clueless entry-level employee out of college, they love to promote this type of worker!

Pros

Great benefit plans. PTO is very nice. Building & campus is beautiful.

Cons

Don't plan on any promotions if you're not one of the 'GOOD OLE BOYS'. You will be overworked and one of the best workers on your team, then the time comes for yearly reviews.......and you will be told that you didn't "HIT YOUR NUMBERS' for the year and you will not get an increase. I was employed for over 11 years with the last 4 years with no merit increase. But this seems to be the norm unless you are upper management.
