Pros

Possibility to transfer from one government contract to another - given that you have made efforts to connect with others within the company.

Cons

When a contract ends there is not much effort from the company to find you another position on another contract. Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging is just a joke - especially for neurodivergent people. Discrimination based on disability and retaliatory wrongful termination - if you dare to complain - is an accepted practice. One of the company values supposed to be "You matter" but this is definitely a company where that is just a lie.

Pros

- You get experience on some really cool projects and cool people - Small teams means you wear many hats - Health benefits are pretty nice (at least for 2024) - "At least it's not as bad as SpaceX" - "Unlimited" FTO, although may find yourself working extra hours as a result. - The people are pretty diverse, inclusive, and relatively open minded, which is refreshing for engineering work. Although there is some favoritism that works against some minorities. - Admittingly, some teams have it easy - much of management continues to work from home despite the in office mandate for everyday employees, and some engineers with good managers will have decent, supportive work environments and remote work. If you do join, I highly recommend you figure out how willing your manager will advocate for you. This will absolutely make or break your experience and career growth. It's a decent springboard for early career people or those entrenched in very specialized fields. If you are willing to move to a different location, it's entirely possible to break into new fields and specializations.

Cons

The company is a husk of what it used to be. Maxar used to feel like a place to stay for a career, but flaws in management exasperated by the private equality acquisition has made life much worse. Some examples: - Promising that remote work is here to stay, leading to many employees moving their themselves and their families from out of town/state. After the acquisition, the company announced a full return to office. Many employees voiced their frustrations, leading to tone-deaf response from the CEO telling employees to grow up and move back. - Chronic understaffing, leading to long hours and burnout for some teams. - Allegations of several labor code violations (see Sansoni v. Maxar Space LLC) - Reliance on "company koolaid" after the acquisition. Company values shifted from "we invest in our valued employees" to "we make profits", and actions from leadership reflected that. - Pay is... ok. Initial wages can be competitive, you will only get a 2-3% merit raise, so it's not great to hang around for too long. - Outsourcing of entire departments and mass layoffs. - High turnover in engineering, management, finance teams, leading to brain drain and disorganization, even before the acquisition. Engineers are often left taking their best guess at the problem.

Used to be a great company to work for with great people.

A private equity firm acquired the company and now there's no end in sight to the layoffs.
