Poor Culture

Pros

Good salary & benefits Friday summer hours (although a lot of people don’t utilise this and frown upon those who do!?) Convenient location for transit

Cons

Was told it was a hybrid position and very quickly realised that this was not the case - first red flag. Poorest culture I’ve worked in so far in my career. Very strong divide between ‘upstairs/downstairs’ - in other words the engineers and production staff. If you didn’t have an engineer title, you were looked down on. Coming from a company where operators were treated with the utmost respect and had a strong voice, I was very uncomfortable with the way engineers talked about and treated them in Verathon. Even if they don’t hold the same title as you shouldn’t mean that you treat them any differently. I felt sad for some production staff who were clearly intimidated by me once I told them my title, Also a strong divide between those who worked there for years and newer staff. I was constantly reminded about people’s long tenure in the company as if they needed praise. Those people were very unwelcoming to new staff and failed to make me feel comfortable when I tried to settle into my new role. I often heard them referring to people who had been there a year or more as the ‘new engineer in the _ team’. Systems can be backwards, particularly the QMS. Lack of personal responsibility when it comes to documentation because everyone knows there’s one or two people in doc control that will fix all their errors and spelling mistakes. Severe lack of team work and collaboration. Extremely quiet office. No office chats. Felt like you were being watched by everyone in the office.

An engaged, collaborative team is of the utmost importance to the success of Verathon which is why we heavily encourage all of our employees to participate in our annual engagement survey and provide feedback to their managers, HR or anyone else in leadership if they feel that there could be improvements made to our culture, systems, etc. While we still have room for improvement, we have made great strides to implement to policies and procedures to create an engaged culture and this is a top priority for us in our continuous improvement initiatives. Verathon is an equal opportunity employer and does not tolerate a culture of exclusivity and discrimination, so please contact our Ethics hotline or Human Resources at humanresources@verathon.com to discuss further.

Pros

Verathon is a fantastic company to work for. The VP team is transparent and open, management has some fantastic leaders, and we are given the freedom to do what we do best without micromanagement. The people who work here are intelligent, genuine, kind, and just plain good at what they do.

Cons

I have zero complaints about this company.

Pros

I was hired pre-pandemic and there were several good things about the company. Management talked the talk, but after awhile the honeymoon is over and you see they don't walk the walk. There used to be more team building and the overall office remodel was great. Products are top of the class and help save lives, so a good industry to be in.

Cons

Sadly more cons than pros. The clique management team is unbearable. Earl is a dictator and you watch everyone fall inline to please him, its his way or it's out the door you go. He has to be involved in every little detail and that is not a way to grow your team and empower your workforce. Many double standards and no room for growth. To get promoted you need to be buddies with Earl. It's definitely a good ol' boys club, look at the lack of diversity on the management team.
