Pros

Part of Alphabet/Google, very smart coworkers, many projects with a really inspiring mission. Opportunities to work with skilled technologists, scientists, doctors, etc.

Cons

Highly-regulated space, products take a little longer to launch than most tech projects. Lots of challenges related to finding a business model/niche for our products in the crazy US health care system.

Pros

- Smart, driven people. With best work ethic you can see in the industry (across tech/bio/pharma). - Good mission. People truly believe in the mission - Google benefits/perks. Good compensation.

Cons

- Bad work life balance. This is understandable given the stage company is in, pre-IPO, and nature of work in biotech industry. - CEO + senior management don't know what it takes to build a valuable product. This is the biggest gap. Verily needs a sustainable business model that's not partnership driven in order to be self-sufficient, and grow outside of Alphabet. Senior leadership lacks experience here. True innovation doesn't only come from clinical innovations. Verily is a technology company. - Senior management over promises to partners, and company then under delivers (due to reasons above). - Terrible leadership. Q&As, All Hands, Surveys are just placeholders. Leadership doesn't "actually" take employee feedback seriously. - CEO lacks empathy. That's not necessarily a requirement for a CEO, but I would expect a CEO to be at least business-savvy if lacking empathy.
