Pros

Stable and growing via acquisition stock price Great work/life balance Laid Back Friendly co-workers - Nice folks Financially secure lots of room for improvement as they do change management

Cons

The upper management are nice and humble people but somewhat out of date in terms of core competencies than what you would find in other companies. Most people have worked at the company for 10-25 years which makes it for a stale environment. ISO is the data arm of the insurance industry that has a near monopoly which is what has kept Verisk in a position with little in the way of competitors. Because of this it acts more like the post office, which is a big part of the problem in working there. Since they do not need to compete - the culture is stagnant. The company has lost touch with their customers and in fact is the least customer concentric company ever that exists. As a result, the data and technology and people are outdated and very legacy. While management cares , they don't have the best talent in non-actuarial roles. The company was built by actuarial, so it is not dynamic -actually a bit dull, siloed and insular environment. It is the antithesis of the” one of the most innovative company” it's just to opposite. Its innovative because of the growth rate through acquisition and nothing more. But the people are nice. There is an unwillingness for some long time employees to embrace the culture of change but they are trying to change that.

More hours without more pay

Pros

The employee resources are pretty good and the JC office is in a nice area. Actions are currently being taken to revamp the work space to look more modern instead of the typical 1980s tall cubicle closed space, no light office layout.

Cons

The pay is way below peer companies. If you're starting at this company, start here knowing that if you were to start at a different company, you'd be making at least $15K higher. I know people who've been at the company for over 10 years who only just got a manager position. I know others who have been at the company 5+ years who have only gotten promoted once. There is not much room to move up the ranks at all. Not to mention, after the most recent reorganization at ISO, people have been leaving left and right and many divisions are extremely short staffed having to work extra hours without any additional pay.

Pros

Great place to work, especially for those just starting their careers and interested in pursuing professional credentials (e.g., becoming Assciates or Fellows of the Casualty Actuarial Society, CPCUs, etc.) Great people to work with -- as rule, very smart, very dedicated, and very collegial. Good work / life balance (for those who don't get too fascinated by what they do.) Great business problems to work on (at least, in the spot I had.) Relatively free of office politics -- you can win an argument by marshaling the facts and getting the logic right -- doesn't depend on who you play golf with. Good opportunities for advancement if you pay your dues / generate value.

Cons

Like all complex organizations, subject to periodic reorganizations and the risks associated therewith. Senior management can be a bit arrogant at times (as a result of their success running the business, I think; I give them a pass on this because they are "justifiably" arrogant, as opposed to those that are "baselessly" arrogant.) Some have reported that entry level work can be less than exciting (though , for toise that are good, that changes).
