Pros

ZERO! Verizon Wireless people are running all of the IT function. They are incompetent and depend of vendors to do the work that should be done by internal employees. The technical skill level of the Verizon Wireless technical people and their managers is minimal at best.

Cons

Massive outsourcing to India is continuing unabated. Management's goal is to have over 90% of IT functions being done in India.

Pros

Benefits...the best in the industry if you ask me and that's the only reason I hadn't left the company. No pros since shortly after 2000. This is where Bell Atlantic screwed it all up. We had a great time working at GTE prior to the merger. Anything after that has been years of turmoil and confusion. If you are a college graduate willing to work for half of what you deserve, apply here. It will be a good start to your career as long as you treat this place as a stepping stone to other things.

Cons

Anything after the Bell Atlantic/GTE merger has been years of sitting on a raging bull. You never knew when or where you would be moved from one organization to the next. The results usually landed you in a position where you lost skill set and expertise. The lay offs kept coming for years...multiples some years. 2014 had one major one in January and now another in June. That was the end of the line for me after 15 years. HR is always raising banners and shooting off fireworks about how you can pick and choose your career path. Bogus. I've tried multiple times to move groups only to be denied by management or the position lost to an upcoming lay off. There may be organizations within Verizon where you can be happy and move up. IT is not one of those organizations.

Pros

The only pro to working here is having this well-known company on your resume and they reimburse some of your graduate school tuition or certifications.

Cons

- Staff is very unfriendly and unwelcoming since day one. No one reaches out to you to feel comfortable - All management cares about is how to keep saving the company money. So little emphasis on the customer or their employees (unless you're in marketing or IT) - No consideration for work-life balance. - Employees only care about themselves. No team effort or collaboration. - Management does not provide proper training or guidance to new employees. - Very limited opportunities for advancement. - Company does not allow any professional recommendations for current or former employees. - No appreciation by upper and mid-level management for work done.
