Organizational Nightmare

Pros

Vertex is a flexible work environment and their loose organizational structure does allow for some freedoms for self-motivated workers. There's a lot of job security and a great work-life balance, as they generate a lot of revenue but don't have much competition.

Cons

The bureaucratic complexities of this company and the resistance to change leads to organizational nightmares at every level and in every department. They fear technological advancements and refuse to pay off tech debt in spite of having the labor hours to do so. Many of management's decisions are based around avoiding jobs that are hard or that would reduce the workload of someone in another department and threaten job security, even if doing so threatens the stability of the organization at large.

Pros

It was a steady job.

Cons

Not like it used to be. Agile at this company means squeezing every drop of blood they can get out of their employees. Constant push back when doing project planning on the amount of work expected, and the difficulty assigned to the work. Hiring 100s of new offshore contractors and letting go folks who understand the work and process to save a buck.
