There are some good people at Virginia Tech, and there is satisfactory research funding.

Cons

Management, corruption, power-dynamics, etc. All educational institutions have similar problems, but Virginia Tech had more than their fair share.

Excellent place to work, friendly colleagues. Small safe town.

Cons

The nearest airport is in Roanoke and its a small one. If you are trying to catch any long distance flight there is going to be a layover.

Nice area. While Blacksburg is technically a small town, it was a lot of amenities to meet the needs of the community.

Cons

Very clicky. If you make the wrong person mad it is not good for your career.
