Pros

Good product, lots of company events, excellent benefits package, many employees are wonderful, educated, well-traveled, cultured and open-minded. Even the not nice ones are most of these too!

Cons

Low salaries (as a result of excellent benefits), unattainable sales goals set (so they don't have to pay you out at end of year), For Sales, they set your bonus to your goal- so if you do not meet your goal, you do not get your bonus. All the money you made for the company, stays with the company but you get no bonus unless 90% +, not enough market research is conducted from management when formulating goals, no support from marketing (you are basically on your ow), No business with HR is good business with HR, Can be overly gossipy among co-workers and clique-y. There is an unspoken reward system for those that are high performers but utterly horrible humans. This should not be the case. Even if they make money for the company, the greater picture is not worth their poison. There isn't a big picture view. The management just looks at the year in front of them, not the years to come. Owner is a millionaire and an eccentric and is not in touch with reality.

Pros

- Small company where you have the potential to make a difference. - Profitable - Well-defined niche (language learning) - Smart & talented co-workers - Yearly bonus (dependent on sales) - A nice, accessible location in Copley Square in Boston

Cons

- As with many print-publishing companies with a tech component, change comes slowly sometimes. - Has trouble holding onto good people in some areas. - Coordination between departments could be improved.

Pros

* Genuinely unique, high quality products. Lots of exciting technology and opportunities you'd normally have to go to an enormous company to get. * Diverse workplace. Racial and cultural diversity company-wide is high, tech team actually has lots of women on it. Not a standard techie culture -- way more pleasant. * People are passionate and invested in their work. The company is actually pretty small, but takes on a lot of big projects, and this attracts brilliant people. * New CEO is very reasonable, and has quickly taken steps to address some of the major issues holding the company back. * Profitable company (which is rare in publishing) that actually gives bonuses and has resources to expand.

Cons

* Privately owned company that will always be somewhat beholden to the whims of the owner. * Struggling to integrate old-school publishing culture with modern tech needs.
