Pros

As a contractor at Microsoft, I can choose which contract I want to interview for. As long as my skills are current, then there are lots of opportunities for work. I can have a flexibile schedule, and since my wife gets benifits I can just opt of a straigt salary.

Cons

Volt does not care if the position you are offered is best suited for you - they only are interested in filling slots. You have to ensure they give you a complete picture of all the opportunities so that you can choose the one that is best for you.

Pooled Commissions Stink for a Recruiting Firm

Pros

They have decent benefits for a recruiting firm. The disability insurance is hard to beat at other recruiting firms.

Cons

They do not always value their contract recruiters. They tend to try to "dumb things down" so they can hire junior level recruiters and wonder why they are losing money. The company tends not to let technical savy recruiters participate in pilot software releases and end up with a slower search for candidates for the recruiters. They have a pooled commission structure. They do this with the thought that recruiters will work as a team, but it never happens. Generally, one recruiter ends up holding the rest of the others up while his/her rate stays down. Also, if a person is constantly a low producer that person can continue to make more on salary than the other recruiters if that person is a close personal friend of the boss.

Don't bother applying for a job here unless you have relatives in management

Pros

Job Experience - aside from management I did get some good job experience. The training was lame. There was two weeks of boot camp style training then you are told here you go. Get to it and don't mess up.

Cons

If you are not drinking buddies with the middle management or related to someone in management then you will never get anywhere in this company. Nepotism ran abounds here. Middle management was allowed to hire relatives that directly reported to them. Then these relatives were then promoted ahead of people that had been there longer and deserved the promotion more.
