Pros

one weekend off per month 20% employee discount decent hourly wage clean and organized retail environment good benefits 1% commission for all departments, shoes 8%

Cons

While working at Von Maur I witnessed countless promotion declines due to the fact that the employee interviewing for a promotion was simply more qualified, skilled and competent than the the current manager. Senior managers are scared for their jobs and are only willing to promote those with the hightest "brown nose" skills. It happened to me and many of my co-workers. Ladies, I hope you like wearing skirts and pantyhose because it is a dress code requirement. If you are a go-getter with outstanding customer service and merchandising skills apply with a company who embrases talent and isn't scared of it.

Decent pay, awful management

Pros

I started as a part time undergrad, and the pay was great to pay the bills and the books. There are no crazy hours EVER, and you get all major holidays off (even labor day). Sundays are also time and a half! The incentives/gratis are pretty good usually (free fragrance, $$...). Loyal (but very small) customer base.

Cons

They are super strict in basiically every aspect imaginable. If you don't make your numbers, open credit cards, or are late (even by 1 minute) chances are you will get terminated. They have extremely inflexible schedules. Technically, you're only supposed to close at most 3 times a week; there were times I was closing 7 days straight! Upper Management is AWFUL. I've never worked somewhere where the managers are so clueless about their own team/store/merchandise. They never appreciate or acknowledge the great things associates accomplish, but will be down your back w/in a second if you so much as to use the restroom w/o asking for permission. There's a reason this company's turnover rate is so high. To top it off the store has a 1950s environment. Women have to wear dresses/skirts w/panty hose at all times, and the computer system... Well there basically isn't one. Also there is NO room for growth or even raises.

Pros

Store is closed on holidays.

Cons

Inventory (Jan & Jul) = 11 hour day with 30 minute break. TESS Scheduling = Zero flexibility, miss family events, forces people to call in sick, can work in excess of 7 days consecutively, crazy shift times, too many weekends!
