Pros

weekly pay fancy dress code (if your into that)

Cons

Multitude of problems to numerous to count. Being their for only 1 month is all one needs to illuminate the atrocious values of this company. To some I might come off as pessimistic and entitled (for one who is only 16) lamenting common rhetoric as, "Be grateful that you have job", but despite this connotative aphorism of "gratitude"for work does not mean that one has to settle for a dead end career. This company is the mcdonalds for supermarkets; that-like mcdonalds- is one tremendous fallacious pyramid centered around the cornerstone of bureaucracy and squeezing out any form of individuality among it's grunt workers. Cons include but is not limited to the lack of trust, lack of flexibility due to its corporate structure, unrealistic work expectations, constant justification of any action you make; this wouldn't be an issue if it only occurs once in a while, but the constant pervasive nature of management is so unbearable I'm surprised anybody could breath working there. An example of this would be the constant surveillance of employee's; the people who work for the von's are some of the most ethical people you will meet yet they'll get fired for sneaking in a sip of crushed in soda that they are forced to throw out anyways. A typical manager at vons would consist of the most boring and mundane person humanly possible; it's almost bone chilling to even speculate how utterly average the managers are. The managers love to exercise their power (it's makes them feel important) for instance I got repremanded for being to accomidating for a customer. I personally quit this job and moved over to trader joes where they treat me as an individual and not just an employee number. I actually hang out with equally quirky co workers after work and look forward to clocking in. So over slavery

Pros

Great coworkers, great customers, good opportunities if you choose to work hard and stick around when you start out at $7.25 an hour. A guaranteed minimum of 20 hours a week if you're part time. I was quickly moved to the meat department within weeks of being hired

Cons

Super low pay starting out, never more than 20 hours a week, some managers are micro managers. Too aggressive with customers in order to drive product sales, union dues coming out of your already tiny check, no real discount for shopping, prices are extremely high, constant paranoia of mystery shoppers and getting bad scores (1 bad mark and you fail the mystery shop)
