Pros

Benefits or what is left of them. They need to realize the new people they hire because they have a degree are probably not the best choice...look at the ones you trained that gave their all for you. Then you shoved them right out in the cold. How is the degreed idiot working for you doing? Oh they couldn't handle the job and you had to let them go...

Cons

If you are male you can go far, if female try another company.

Pros

Decent pay, vacation and holiday pay. The company has scholarship programs and supports local schools. Supports Holy Family High School and allows students to intern with Vulcan, has employee tuition reimbursement (though this has stopped for new employees).

Cons

Mid level management treats employees in a horrible manner. Employees can report problems to HR or upper management but ultimately nothing is done to resolve the problem. One department has had many employees "laid off" or "let go" but none of them have been replaced. Most departments are operating with a skeleton crew in which each employee is doing several different tasks or taking on the combined work that would have once belonged to two or more other employees. The employees are not being compensated or promoted. Vulcan's insurance plan was once excellent and a major reason why people would want to work for them, however, the benefits get worse each year while the price steadily increases. Also, you can forget about promotions in the company. Even if you obtain a degree you will be told that you do not have the experience to move into a position. The workforce has been greatly reduced and employees are taking on more responsibilities and, in some cases, doing the work that once belonged to 2 or 3 employees. The work has to be done but management becomes angry if the overtime budget is exceeded. Also, while Vulcan pays for employees to have short term disability (sick time is taken out of this) many managers become irate if employees take sick time. This appears to be due to reduced workforce as work quickly piles up because employees have no one to help take on their workload when they are absent. While employees cannot be reprimanded for taking FMLA I know of several employees who have had snide remarks made toward them for taking it (i.e. a coworker was talked down to for having to extend her FMLA due to complications from childbirth)
