Pros

All upper level management employees I met were very friendly and nice. Their system for retaining employees sounded impressive, but I was not there long enough to experience the bonus system myself.

Cons

Substantial lack in communication to employees being acquired in a merger. Management seemed very disorganized, and at times even dishonest.

Pros

Work hours are Monday through Friday with no weekends. Retirement benefits are good, but watch out for bank administrator fees on your 401-k plan. If your bank is being acquired by this bank they will offer for you to stay, but in one their job positions and expect a serve pay cut.

Cons

Wages are terrible, barely above minimum wage. Turn over is an accepted part of their business philosophy from branch management down to the customer service reps; as everyone hired quickly becomes dissatisfied with the low wages and covering everyone else's job. Outdated systems and rigid old school corporate polices will eventually wear you down.

Pros

Washington Federal has very strong management and core values that are apparent throughout the company. During the 2008 crisis, they were one of few banks that remained healthy and came out ahead due to their foresight in staying out of the sub-prime lending craze. WaFed has great people in its leadership positions who are very approachable and experienced. The bank has a conservative approach but it has proven to be quite beneficial over time. Additinoally, the atmosphere is great - the company is full of very nice people who are great to work with, and it is a relatively low stress environment.

Cons

The salary is generally not great (although the fringe benefits are above average) and they ask a lot of their employees - people tend to be stretched thin doing multiple duties. This has a lot of big-picture benefits for the bank as a whole, but I noticed that it started to wear on some people after a while.
