Pros

I can't say that I wasn't blessed with having this job. When I first started working for Walgreens, I was proud to work for a company that was fair on all aspects. I felt that there was a lot of potential for growth even without a college degree.

Cons

As times changed, they have cut back, a lot. People were fired, others where given different titles of importance that was basically the same job they were doing before, just more shoved on their plate to make up for the ones that were fired. Hours have been cut back on. The building of stores are slowed and to make it worse they have build stores in areas that make no profit. Every time I turn around, a new job title pops up, and many people lose their jobs. Soon I think it will affect the many people who work the stores more than those who make up the titles.

Pros

I have worked in other retail chains before and Walgreens does pay above average. Good profit sharing plan, 10% discount on stock purchases. Part timers get holiday pay also. If you hang in there you can promote to store manager.

Cons

Starting pay for a store manager isn't that great. Just a few more $k above and EXA. Bonuses can be large (7k to 45k). They are open on ALL holidays. A 24hr store is open 24/7 ALL year. Hard to balance work and life. As an mgt or an EXA you can get transfered anywhere without any say-so. If a store is down the street from you, it is too close. You will get transfered 40 miles away. I am told that this is dew to exposing assistant mgrs to different management styles. Thats fine, but when 2 EXAs got promoted last year they had only worked in ONE store. Hmmmm.... And, it seems that only EXAs with degrees are getting promoted. Thats fine too, but Walgreens should have some form of tution reimbursement plan.
