Pros

You learn a great deal of running the store operations. Great benefits.

Cons

Salary is not good compared to other entry level positions. Expect to work long hours even though they say you can get the job done in 44hrs/week. Don't expect to move up the ladder quickly or make a change to corporate.

Pros

I started with Walgreens three years ago as a cashier. Three months later, I was promoted to photo specialist and got a dollar raise. Once I learned photo, sometimes they would rotate me working in the front or in cosmetics. I liked the change of pace. Then 6 months later, I became a pharmacy technician and got a three dollar raise. Pharmacy was a bit more difficult, but once you master the computer system (after about three months) it's really not that hard of a job. A year later, I became a Sr. Pharmacy Technician and got another raise of two dollars. Walgreens gives you lots of opportunity if you're a hard worker.

Cons

Sometimes it seems that Walgreens managers and CEOs care more about their customers than their employees. In the pharmacy, I've experienced some of the meanest customers ever. They are allowed to cuss at us and everything, and we are not allowed to ban them or kick them out. But I guess that's why Walgreens is so competitive.

Pros

The company has been going through major changes in senior management and organization structures in the past two years and are in the processes of implementing recommendations from several consulting companies in every area you could possibly think of. Overall it's heading a better direction compared to two years ago and there are lots of opportunities out there.

Cons

Working in a big old company that is going through major overhauls could be chaotic. Many top executives are too old fashioned and really cannot keep up with the constantly changing environment. Even after laying off several hundreds people at the corporate, the company is overstaffed with useless analysts and clueless middle management. The compensation is decent but the benefits are horrible. Reviews, very often, are not based on performance, which discourage hard-working employees. People, especially the middle management, tend to spend most of their time in meetings without really generating any deliverables.
