Pros

It has great opportunity for career advancement. You can move up to department manager quickly if you are proficient in photo or cosmetic department. Hallmark department is easy to learn. Opens one store a day, although it is slowing down. Has a walgreen nearly in every state. It is close by - have one nearly in every major city. Never seen one ever go out of business. Has a great profit sharing plan which pay you about $3 for every dollar you invest for the first 2% bracket. Although you must work there 90 days before you can join. 15% employee discount on store purchases. 20% discount on Walgreens/"W" brand items. Flexible hours - you can get more hours in another walgreens if your store don't have any hours.

Cons

They are cutting hours and overtime is a thing of the past. Not enough salespeople on salesfloor. Some built in shady high crime area where shoplifting is prevalent. Never closes, not even on holiday. Say bye bye to your social life if your management. Expect things to be done but not give you the right tools/help to get it done promptly. Way too much resets/revision from corporate. Some store are old and needs major upgrade. Very hard to gets day off if you are a parent and have other obligations. Some store manager are bad at "managing" with there "I don't care, get it done" attitude. Annoying elderly asking irrelevant question, kids messing up your toy aisles, wannabe / thugs teenager coming in with backpacks to shoplift, asking to use restroom (create mess in restroom) but don't buy anything, customer asking for refunds without receipt (return fraud), and crackheads/panhandlers asking for "change" outside the store pretty much sums it up.

Walgreens is a stable, mature company with opportunity to transfer anywhere in the country. If you have plans to work as a pharmacist with them, they compensate part of your pharmacy school tutition.

Cons

The workload is very high, there is hardly enough time to get everything accomplished, customers refusing to cooperate slow down the workflow , insurance issues are complex and hard to understand until significant time is spent on the job
