Pros

It's good to know that at least you are working for a stable company. You can be confident Walgreens will be here ten years from now. There are new stores opening all the time. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Cons

Employees are not treated equally by management. Most management do not want to listen to employee input even though that is exactly what the top ranks say they do. Corporate changes things inside the store without considering that older stores were built differently with different wall and gondola heights. More work is always expected in less time. More responsibilities are continually added without compensation. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Pros

8 hour shifts compared to the 12-14 hour shifts at other retail companies. The computer system is much better that other retail stores. salary is higher than in hospital. hours are flexible. management listens to you. room to grow. the retirement plan is supposed to be really good.

Cons

every pharmacist makes the same salary, so somone workin their ass off in a busy store makes the same as somone relaxing in a slow store. We have to pay into our health plans. You aren't eligible for health coverage until after three months and dental after six months.

Pros

Advancement, relatively well paid, company culture

Cons

Very visible glass ceiling in career advancement for non-pharmacists (DM is pretty much it, unless you're a pharmacist), Transfers which happen the day after notification, a fair amount of physical labor, lack of instructional follow-through in new service roll-out, high turnover among service clerks, unstable schedule (though the same goes for all retail jobs). If there is one reason I might leave the company, is the seemingly stubborn company culture of promoting pharmacists more quickly than people with advanced business degrees. Walgreen's is a business as much as it is a pharmacy. Some of the company's recent troubles can be attributed to just that - not enough more business-minded decision makers.
