Pros

Good opportunites for becoming a store manager; above average salaries for store managers of retail chain pharmacies, profit sharing is well above industry average with regards to matching. Store technology is overall very good - hiring and training systems, pharmacy management systems, inventory tracking systems are all excellent, with POS systems lagging far behind other retailers. The rumors are the POS systems will be overhauled in the next few years.

Cons

Lack of opportunities above store manager level; preferences for promotion to DM position generally given to minorities and females. The company is still growing at a fast clip but store support is dwindling as the chain grows (i.e. more stores in each district, payroll being cut to dangerous levels, district staff spread too thin among too many stores, etc.). Hourly wages for store staff (clerks, photo techs, and beauty advisors) are very low compared to other retailers but competitive with other drugstore chains. Very hard to attract good talent when all you can offer someone is $7.50/hour. District Managers do not support giving store clerks anything above a 3% yearly raise, so turnover is high.

Pros

There are no pros to working here.

Cons

They micromanage you, they can’t tell you where any policies are for things like attendance, sick time, etc! There is no sick time and if you call off they take your pto. They make things up and say you have occurrences when you don’t, and they don’t even talk to you about it, not really. There is nothing positive here and when they talk to you it’s about what you’re doing wrong. No positive thinking or reinforcement. They micromanage. There function leads are as phoney as the day is long. The one who was my lead not only was she incapable of, she was incompetent, unapproachable, judgmental, and just as fake as can be. She had no business being in leadership. They promote people who do the bare minimum or barely show up for work. There’s no one on ones with your boss and when they do mange to talk to you it’s about things being done wrong as a team and not individual. There’s no building anyone up here. Anyone thinking of working here, run! The calls are back to back to back and the patients are just rude with no manners and management doesn’t have your back but they don’t care about patients either! They go into “meetings” on a daily basis but are gone for over an hour and there’s no one in go to if there’s an issue or emergency. They just don’t care! This place is dark, toxic and evil! Run!

Pros

Uh, guess you can use them as a stepping stone. . They will train you, send you to school & pay for your licenses & renewals. You can learn a lot about the pharmacy industry & operations all while being paid (even if it's not much) but if you look at the job like it's an apprenticeship, a stepping stone to something better, then it could be worth putting up with all the dysfunction.

Cons

The headline says it all when it comes to being a boots on the ground worker. . You are told you are disposable! You are treated as disposable! You are the scapegoat when it comes to managements accountability. Your treated as a whipping post, more & more work is piled on an already too burdened load. All for lousy pay (barely above minimum wage) even though you have to keep a professional license!! The employer is so out of touch with its boots on the ground workers! Definitely not worth the stress, nor the abuse you take! Walgreens is no longer the company it used to be a couple decades ago. They lost their way, chasing, pursuing the almighty dollar!! They want more customers, but couldn't care less about actually caring for those customers/patients needs or safety . . They just want the $$$
