Pros

- If you have a good team with projects with high visibility, then you will have engaging work with good engineers - Some teams are only 2 or 3 days in office per week, but slowly the company is trending towards 5 days

Cons

- Politics - Path to promotion depends on your manager (see #1) - Not a tech company, so you will encounter many subpar engineers - Retail-first company, so you will often times be engaged in on-call support or "mission critical" ops outside of work hours to fix something in production - Weak appraisal cycles ($) - No engineering direction from senior leadership (mostly ex-Amazon folks who got laid off from there)

Pros

Nice manager, nice team, nice wlb, okay compensation

Cons

High-level leadership is unpredictable; slow promotion; no one knows their long-term career direction due to constant reorgs

Pros

Working at Walmart scale will teach you a lot Lots of technology stacks at play, so there's a lot of opportunity to learn Combined compensation (base pay, bonus, and stocks) are decent to good in comparison to other non-tech companies

Cons

Lots of office politics rule the day. There's a clear preference by many leaders for "yes men". Leadership can be inconsistent and constantly changing - you can be under a great director, but a reorg puts you under someone awful. Promotion is a highly subjective process. You have to make the right successes at the right time in front of the right people. Increasing level of micromanagement is worrisome
