Watco in Houston for employment

Pros

Some good people work for the company who are very knowledgable.

Cons

The good people are the ones they take advantage of. Total disorganized in Houston with a poor record for quality and efficiency. You have to be in the click to see any advancement or be a yes man. Management talks out of both sides of its mouth when they starting talking family.

Pros

Great team member support, and extremely supportive of Veterans and actively recruit both separated Vets, and those like me, who continued to serve in the Guard and Reserves. Watco has not only supported me, but actively tries to hire and support Vets due to their experience working outdoors in adverse conditions, mission forward attitude, and leadership experience we bring. As a growing company, there is a very high opportunity for advancement especially for those who are mobile and can take advantage of openings at locations around the US. Company appreciates the ability to work with people, desire to help, and drives the servant leadership model. Training is provided, unlike going to work for a larger railroad, where you have to pay thousands for your own initial training before even being hired, Watco will pay you during training. Railroad Retirement.

Cons

Watco is growing fast, and a demanding 24/7 workplace. training someone to work takes a lot of time, so often short handed of experienced workers. Lot of focus on new railroads, not as much on old railroads. Older locomotives and track.

Pros

Upper leadership encourages out of the box ideas to take care of specific needs of team members that are not their responsibility and they never share what they've done for folks. Truly care about a quality of life Always transparent. Even when the response isn't popular.

Cons

Sometimes the message from the leadership team gets lost before it reaches the field, but I think the company has worked and continues to work hard to fix that.
