Pros

Benefits include great insurance, 401k, ESOP, and tuition reimbursment. Our corporate support system is fantastic and available 24 hours a day. Upper management is very responsive and open-minded to new ideas. Wawa is not afraid to listen and respond to its customers and employees. Store level management is roughly 60% internal promotions, so the GM can relate, and there are lots of opportunities for a career.

Cons

Though it is a great company, at the end of the day, it is still a gas station/convenience store to a lot of people. There are days where we deal with being looked down upon, or talked down to. There is also trash to be pulled, bathrooms to be cleaned, and there is a lot of cleaning up after people who have little respect for us or our store.

Pros

Wawa is a great place to work as long as you understand the demands of working in retail. I have worked as a manager for several other retailers, and I must say that Wawa treats their associates better than any other retailer that I have worked for. For part time associates the pay is on par if not better than what you will see from other companies. Once you have worked with Wawa for at least a year you are giving company stock each year, and once you have been with the company for seven years you can leave and will be payed out based on the value of your shares. If you have goals and ambition you can definitely advance. Pay for management is much better than I have experienced with other employers, so bottom line is - work hard, and strive for management and you will be generously compensated for your efforts.

Cons

This is a retail environment, and a very busy one at that. Expect to work hard, and sometimes walk away from the job feeling exhausted. Most stores are opened 24 hours, and many are opened 365 days a year, so you can expect to work some shifts that may be less desirable than others - most management will work with your availability, but it is best to keep your availability open. The job can be stressful at times, and in some instances you may have a manager who is less than a perfect fit for the position that they are in. Most managers are reasonable, but as with any company, you are going to come across a few who are over demanding and unreasonable. This is nothing different from any other job in the world - unfortunately it's just the way that it goes.

Pros

Wawa has so much to offer for leaders. Compensation and responsiblities are right in line (above industry comparables), and the autonomy with the role is very rewarding. There is a genuine fulfillment with your ability to develop others and realize your potential for leadership. The scope of decision making is in line with Director level roles elsewhere.

Cons

Performance is determined explicitly with metrics and on-paper results. Behavioral leadership is necessary and appreciated, but if you have a tough market, you will not feel like you're winning at times.
