Community is a Trap

Pros

Generous PTO, decent pay Previously generous health benefits, but starting in 2023 employees must pay in a substantial amount per paycheck Lateral coworkers in Community are amazing colleagues

Cons

Very difficult to move up - Community is treated like a training program rather than an actual professional role. You can apply for new roles after a year, but they low key expect employees to stick around in the same junior position for 4+ years until it's their "turn" to receive a change or promotion. Previous experience isn't really factored into promotion consideration. Most people eventually give up and go elsewhere. Community is not respected by other departments so teams are constantly begging for support to resolve simple issues while members grow frustrated over lack of resolution. Total lack of accountability in the senior leadership structure, or any real leadership / vision other than flailing around making budget cuts that hurt the member experience and make life difficult for Community teams who are already working hard each day on behalf of members.

Pros

-> Good work/life balance -> Fully remote, but offices are very nice -> Low-level employees are great people

Cons

-> Company REFUSES to hire. Some positions have been open for 2.5 years -> No one is backfilled. When someone leaves, that position is gone forever. All teams are understaffed, most have been understaffed for >2 years, many teams are completely gone and others must maintain their projects -> Middle management and upward are completely incompetent -> The entire company changes priorities every 3-4 months, top-to-bottom -> My team has been reorganized 9 times. I am on my 8th manager in 4 years. -> The cruelest and most cut-throat managers get promoted, the compassionate ones don't -> Technology org particularly is an absolute rats' nest of chaos, incompetence, and politics -> You will not get promoted. Even with the absolute highest possible performance reviews, you will never be promoted

Pros

Nothing much to say! There are better companies to work for!

Cons

No work/life balance - don't believe what your read or hear (false advertisement) Favoritism is in full effect. Glass Ceiling is real. Terrible support from Human Resources. Fire and Replace Accountings Managers and "Leaders" Boy's Club type of environment. Attractive women, beware!
