Need to offer more growth options for employees

Pros

WeddingWire has been successful in hiring some really great, talented people. With that, they've created an environment where you are able to work with some of your best friends - making it more difficult to leave the company. They do offer "unlimited PTO" but that means different things depending on which department you work in. They also offer catered breakfast and occasionally lunch.

Cons

As the company has grown they have made the mistake of putting the tenured employees into middle management roles. These employees are not fit to be managers, and aren't interested in being a manager to help their team become more successful - but simply for the power of the position. There are a few great managers, however the overwhelming majority have no idea how to manage a team or help their team to grow within the company. You'll also be lucky if you can find a clear path for growth. Unfortunately, these "management" positions are your only option for growth and if you aren't interested in being a manager, then you don't have any other options. They would rather you find a new job then work with you within the company which shows they don't value their current employees.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I am happy that you can agree that hiring the best talent at WeddingWire has been, and will continue to be, a top priority for us. We strongly believe that great people make great companies. We value each and every employee, and we feel as though some of our best managers have come from within. With that, we regret that your experience wasn't what we had hoped. We take your feedback as we are always looking for areas in which we can grow and it is our top priority to ensure that we are transparent, allow our employees to grow professionally and to ultimately have the best employee experience.

Pros

The company is dominated by a sales culture followed by a marketing culture followed by a tech culture. Think beer pong, video games or wine and cheese every other day. Sales, as can be expected, is Darwinian. You don't make the numbers you're out. They do provide training. The territory assigned is sometimes total luck of the draw. The company is open enough that you get to collaborate with different groups and learn different facets of the business. The main product being so highly visible and profitable means your work gets out in front of a large audience everyday.

Cons

Lots of Kool-Aid being ladled. Upper management are good talkers. But not so great with the walk. The focus is on squeezing revenue and making (bad) deals rather than doing the hard work of making good product. The best talent walks. If you are a good role player and don't mind being hitched to a wayward wagon, then WW is your place.

Pros

WeddingWire treats their employees the way they would like to be treated- fairly. I have never worked for a company (and I'm 31 so I have worked for a lot) that cares this much about their employees. Yes I'm in sales, yes sales is hard, yes sales can be stressful, but my success and my ability to do well in this position falls on MY shoulders. WeddingWire does everything they can on their end to support me and I can't imagine working anywhere else. They allow me to have an amazing work/life balance and have given me many opportunities to grow.

Cons

Nothing except the general (and minimal) stress that comes with the territory of being in sales!

We completely agree! We pride ourselves on being a company that encourages the "work hard, play hard" mentality and we are happy that you feel that way as well. You are right, sales isn't for everyone but we strive to be the type of company that gives their employees the support and tools to be successful (and to thrive) in this type of role. We are lucky to have you as part of the WeddingWire Team.
