Pros
The local clinicians are outstanding. I would gladly put my life in the hands of many of the WellSpan physicians, APPs and nurses. The providers, nurses, and allied health staff “doing the work” are among the few actually serving the purpose of caring for patients.
Cons
There are very limited growth opportunities, particularly for advanced practice providers (PA, CRNP, CNM, CRNA, etc. ). You are neither viewed as a full member of the medical staff, like physicians, or an employe capable of management skills. This is despite an APP managing dozens of patients, directing staff, coordinating resources and collaborating with various other colleagues on a day to day basis.
