Pros

I always felt like my work had value. There was a comfort level that let people focus on doing their work instead of ploting how to survive the next fall of the axe. In general if you needed information to do your job people were helpful. I never felt the need to pretend that I knew anything that I didn't.

Cons

Sometimes they may have been a little slow to deal some personel problems. It also seemed like there was a tendency for plans to become objectives in there own right instead of being judged against the objectives the plan was intended to serve. There was a big tendency to filter out bad news as it went up the chain of command.

Legal Department Is Not Nice Place to Work

Pros

Overall decent place to work, clients are friendly, smart and usually willing to work with you. Salaries are OK. Benefits are good. Free parking which is unusual for downtown Richmond. Nice cafeteria and gym onsite.

Cons

The management of the Legal Department are old fashioned, bad communicators and there are very few good managers. It has the feel of a Northeastern Law firm where hierarchy reigns, resistance to change is high and problems are ignored (if you don't like it here just leave). They talk a good game for being inclusive and concerned about making it a good place to work but they are so in their box and just satisfied with the fact that the work is getting done. The reality is that most people, not all, are overworked and very unhappy and but for the bad economy of the last several years turn-over in this department would have been much higher.
