Pros

Western is an absolutely terrific place to work. They're in a period of substantial growth in many ways, including the modernizing of their technology, and there is an incredible amount of opportunity for someone willing to get into the thick of it and help. Western is a supportive, trusting atmosphere in which you will feel empowered to guide your own schedules, tasklists, and development. You'll have people helping you every step of the way, but no micromanagement. My professional development was moved forward from day one, with employees encouraged to attend seminars and presentations at every opportunity. MY work was guided at my own discretion, and the only time someone was there to look over my shoulder was when I asked them to do so. Work/life balance is second to none at Western. Never have I worked with an employer so willing to stand behind their "sell" of themselves during the recruitment/interview process. Your life does not take a secondary level of importance at Western; instead Western becomes a part of your life, and the company is there to work with you when things need to be balanced out. I came in during a particularly hectic time in my personal life, and was met with nothing but the utmost support and understanding when I needed some flexibility to get things in order. Because of that support and trust, Western became one of my absolute priorities -- not because I had to, but because I wanted to. I can not recommend this company more. Especially if you have a chance to join the BA team in the Projects and Planning department.

Cons

As with any company undergoing growth of this nature, this may not be the company for you if you need a tasklist created for you every day. You need to be flexible and accommodating for how the business works. You will be expected to bend and flex with the company, and at times it can feel frustrating -- like you don't have a sense of direction -- but that sense of direction can be easily defined through a simple conversation with your manager. I don't consider it a con; perhaps better stated as a warning that this is not the place to work if you're looking for a rigid, static, and fully inclusive definition of your job.

Pros

The benefits are good and very competitive. The new office space is very nice and being maintained & upgraded constantly. The company is showing some self awareness of its faults and is making an active effort to address them, I respect this in a person or an organization.

Cons

The company is experiencing some growing pains. The investments being made to bring Western National's technology up to date are bringing many many new faces with it. This is good in the long run, but change is difficult and a lot is changing.

Thank you for your honest review! It’s been an exciting few years of growth for the Western National Insurance Group. While we’re excited about the direction of the company and the opportunities growth provides for our employees, you’re spot on that sometimes growth can bring growing pains. We understand that change can be hard. Please know that we’re committed to making updates that will ultimately benefit our employees and customers, and we’re working hard to make transitions as smooth as possible. We have a lot of great employees here who are helping us make a difference. Thanks for being a member of the team!

Pros

The insurance they provide to their external customers is competitive.

Cons

They monitor your bathroom breaks, you cannot get time off easily, and heaven forbid if your children get sick.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback. We’re disheartened to hear that you did not feel supported at Western National – especially since work/life balance is a key component to our company culture. We want all our employees to feel supported, and we offer flexible work schedules and encourage using PTO. To that end, we’d like to learn more about your individual experience so that we can better understand what happened. If you are willing, please contact us at HRmail@wnins.com.
