Pros

Great name recognition within the IT and BPO industry. Model corporation within India with a proud and interesting history. Some technology is at the forefront.

Cons

Very siloed. Staff are not likely to perform as a team, but rather seek to protect their territory. Very difficult to get things accomplished. Also, the company tends to hire for one position and then slot the employee into another, e.g., half of my start group of senior managers did not last a year with Wipro. Beware of this "bait and switch".

Very Good Training Facilities (mailny at offshore though) High Importance to competency building, knowledge sharing Trying their level best to provide access to all the information needed from knowledge gathering, knowing about company in general, various groups etc.

Cons

Incompetent Higher Level Managers No Transparency about salary, promotions, banding and other benefits - the immediate managers are not always consulted to provide recommendation of their direct reportees, rather the decisions taken at higher level and communicated down. Work/Personal Life balance is not faovred; specifically owing to the onshore/offshore model mostly Extreme focus on controlling oeprational parameters even when the project situation is not favorable to do so. Lack of availability of competent resources at onshore; push to use lesser experienced resources for client facing roles

* Encouragement for independent initiatives (Special projects, internal improvement projects etc.) * High customer focus. * Knowledgeable co-workers * Great training department * Process oriented * Emphasis on knowledge management

Cons

* Partisan attitude (favoritism) shown by certain managers/groups. * Salaries not competitive. * Higher management does not care about employees (As evidenced by the low salaries, and the don't care attitude when better facilities/benefits are demanded) * Bureaucracy/Red-tape in certain departments (Administrative, transport etc.) - For instance complaints about cafeteria food quality/taste and high bus fares (For those availing the company bus facility) usually fall on deaf ears. * Do not do enough to retain the best people
