Pros

They have a ping-pong table (but you're not allowed to use it during the day/breaks because it's distracting to people working)

Cons

Wise was amazing when I first started, and had leaders who cared about the culture and work-life balance. They were all replaced within months of my start date, and Wise shifted to a more typical call center environment. Expect a very heavy workload with little to no support from management. Very few career advancement opportunities. I spent half of my time working as an unpaid trainer in their GetWiser training program for months, and was unable to leverage it into any meaningful opportunities or connections.

Pros

Wise is great if you are attempting to break into tech with little to no experience The company does a great job and selecting candidates who align with their values. Therefore, MOST people are great to work with. (Every job has its cons when is comes to this but I will say I experienced the least amount of conflicts compared to other roles) Small chance of travel for some roles Team oriented environment. Team culture is so huge that it is safe to say most Wisers find themselves disagreeing with the company but LOVING their team (ironic but I promise its true) PTO- Accrued but maxes out at 300hrs (and gets paid out) + Me Days and Sick Time

Cons

Pay- I am currently on the hunt for another role, and although I am actively looking. I have gotten callbacks and met the requirements for roles that pay at least 20% more than my role Wise. "Scaling"- This word has kind of cursed me haha. I understand growth to maintain a profitable company, but Wise is such a reactive environment and you'll find yourself stressing about this outside of work at times. Wise went through this huge phase of growth post-pandemic (which is rare and amazing] but instead of implementing actual strategy they were reactive. It is clear operational departments like CS and Due diligence have over-hired or will be over headcount in the future. Leaving offices like Tampa and Tartu at the brink of closing. On top of this, although it is quite obvious that Wise is headed in this direction messaging from department heads and officers often gaslight. The company prides itself on "no layoffs" but silently has laid Wisers off. Tampa specific teams and roles have been dissolved and offered severance, and globally recruiting has done some down-sizing; it won't make "headlines" because the percentage of the workforce is not large-enough. Operational teams are constantly changing KPIs and restricting whilst avoiding obvious steps when it comes to re-structure. It's as if no one from the actual team experiencing the change was in the room when the choice was made. This has shown time and time again, I have witnessed an ENTIRE new team be created for a specific issue and everybody celebrating while they got laid off 1 year later. Disproportionate benefits- Wise seems to only invest into London, Tallinn, and Austin, when it comes to on office benefits. There was even recently a "Return to Office" policy launched only for Americas. But outside of that, this is clear with snacks, office location, and events. I was based out of Tampa and in my almost 3 years I saw the CEO once, and he deflected all questions asked and left the city the same day. A lot of my feedback is Americas focused but I can confidently say some of these issues are company-wide. (Example, Budapest, and Austin CLEARLY have retention issues, although they are two prioritized locations) If I were considering working here, whether its Austin, Tampa, London, Singapore, etc. I would stick the time out gain experience and enjoy the benefits offered, while actively looking and earning additional certifications, making new connections, etc to further your career. If you are looking to work here and have ample experience, I suggest going elsewhere if you can. The job market is tough, so I could see people considering this as "in between" as well.

One of the most toxic places to work

Pros

There are some really awesome people (not many of them left though) And some of the benefits, really just some as they have certain health care benefits categorically excluded!

Cons

Toxic work environment, psychological mind games being played by upper management. Oppression and making people feel miserable because there’s always something to complain about what the agents are not doing properly. Unorganized and unstructured management but instead regular agents are being micromanaged where even quick breaks to get some coffee or to go to the bathroom need to be recorded as these times would work against your total handling time - an absolute perversion! They’re shifting everything over to the newer Austin office not providing any kind of career development for the people in the Tampa office unless they are willing to move to the Austin office which the employees have to pay for by themselves as Wise does not provide any assistance for relocation. Compensation is mediocre and the great culture they refer to is only existent on paper - not in real life. Diversity is partially good but could be better if compared with what other local companies and global players provide. Work life balance can work out if you’re not mentally so exhausted from the stress artificially created to keep you in place and make you feel bad. I don’t believe that the CEO is aware of everything that goes on but whoever is working for him should be able to read all the signs and comments and messages employees leave in certain Slck channels or even here and should make him aware of it. I believe there’s a positive business outlook not because of the great management but more because of the need of the service. My recommendation is: read about what customers put out there on the internet about their experience with Wise (you won’t be able to see any comments on Facebook or LinkedIn though because they have deactivated the comment function as too many would complain how badly they have been treated and many more would chime in - that’s not what they want even though they claim they love feedback). After reading all these comments from existing and former customers ask yourself: why should they treat their employees any better I when they’re treating paying customers unfair an poorly?
