Pros

- the people are awesome, smart, passionate about good work - the office vibe is fun, relaxed, informal, open, inclusive - the opportunity in the video platform market is growing fast and Wistia is well-positioned to take advantage of this - the ability to join the team and make an immediate impact is quite high - leadership encourages thinking big, trying new things, and they really care about the people and culture

Cons

- as a smaller but fast-growing company, need to solve the typical challenges that arise at this stage: role definition, career pathing, process, cross-departmental coordination - sometimes want to be moving faster but being slowed by legacy "small company" democratic decision-making

Pros

* Everyone is extremely approachable, nice, and smart. Really, I can look at anyone here and be impressed with how good of a job they do * Workspaces are comfortable, inviting, and accommodating * Transparency all around * Company has taken little in the way of funding and has a very good handle on its money * Company-wide hackathons * Meetings you actually want to go to * Super nimble. I've learned and produced more in two months than I had in a year at my last job

Cons

* Little in the way of funding means that the teams are smaller with fewer entry level people. This means more busy work for tasks that would usually be good to delegate * Having the team split between two offices has been a bit of a challenge * There can be a small storm of chaos and confusion when strategy changes while people try to get on the same page * Sometimes I feel like we focus too much on trying to do things the "right way" instead of just trying to GSD * It's a small company. There is very little process or career mapping

Wistia has ruined me for any other employer ever

Pros

The work is interesting and fun, the people are smart and talented -- at this point (~3 years in), I feel like I work with all of my friends. I come to work early because I feel so pumped about what I'm doing. The companies we partner with are some of the most exciting, ground-breaking ones out there. And the perks are pretty good too, if you like snacks and comfy couches, (but hey, I'm easy). Even if a new employer were to offer me 2-3x what I make now, I don't think I'd take it.

Cons

The biggest con is that you can never work anywhere else again because nothing will compare! While that is fairly accurate, there are a couple downsides. The open office can be pretty distracting, and the company doesn't have the clearest stance yet on working from home. I also think that Wistia, like many startups, has a lot of ambiguity. So you have to be comfortable with ambiguity and change or you'll be frustrated.
