Pros

Quiet location and nice office

Cons

The company talks about values, but the only value that matters is back stabbing. Watch your back at all times, because the person laughing with you in the morning is the one who will stab you in the back before the evening. Everyone here talks bad about everyone else behind their back. And the one that back stabs the most number of people, wins. The cherry on the cake is the CEO, who loves to listen to gossip and promotes anyone who will set up a one on one with him to talk bad about others. He is a true hypocrite who pushes people to take risk and not be afraid, and then goes all out on anyone who follows that path. The most successful people at this company are the ones that bow down to the CEO at all times, and praise him and finish up with talking about other people behind their back. That is the most valued characteristic in this company, and that person will be allowed to get away with anything.

Pros

If you’re looking for a case study in what not to do in leadership, this is it. You'll learn a lot about red flags. Fast.

Cons

Working here was one of the most mentally draining and toxic experiences of my career. The management is aggressive and soulless, running the company like a twisted cult where constant micromanagement is the norm. We were hounded all day for updates on Slack, like robots on a timer, not professionals trusted to do our jobs. The CEO is a full-blown narcissist, obsessed with control and incapable of listening to anyone who challenges his ego. Nothing is ever good enough, yet no real direction is provided. It’s crazy how much time is wasted pretending things are fine when in reality, testing and security are complete afterthoughts, which should terrify anyone in tech. You’re not building something here, you’re surviving it.

Pros

There were some friendly teammates.

Cons

The company's professed values sound good and look nice on a slide, but they don't align with the reality of working here. Despite what the company policy claims, bullying is tolerated. I reported bullying to my supervisor and it was met with platitudes such as "that's just the way that person is" and "focus on relationships with other people in the company." The CEO talks a good game about how the company is a "rocket ship". He says things like, "not everyone wants to be on a rocket ship so some people won't make it here." He simultaneously acknowledges openly that the employee net promoter score is low and that he made poor decisions by putting people who aren't servant leaders into people management positions within the last year or two. He seems to think he has course corrected; but there are still bad apples in the bunch. The CEO talks about how he created and sold multiple companies worth tens or hundreds of millions of dollars over the past 30 years; but somehow in those experiences, he seems to have neglected to learn how to build a team of leaders who can create an atmosphere where their colleagues are valued, heard, and appreciated. People want to be led, not micromanaged. For a company that talks about how they create smiles for the recipients of their gift cards, there don't seem to be many people working here who are smiling. There is frequent bickering and finger pointing within and between the SBUs (Strategic Business Units). The company is constantly moving people to different positions, different SBUs, or cutting positions. Earlier this year, within the span of about two months, 10-15% of the employees either left or were let go. There seems to be an undercurrent of distrust woven through parts of the organization where people are constantly looking over their shoulder or assuming the worst about their colleagues.
