Pros

I have been with Cree for 5 years now and have enjoyed it. I work in the Lighting unit. I love the work-life balance, compensation, and colleagues. Employees are offered a competitive salary and ESPP and Stocks. I have been given opportunities to work on several challenging opportunities which has helped me grow. Cree also has a good tuition reimbursement program and encourages purusing higher degree. The new CEO has a track record of turning businesses around and his strategy has been working so far. Employee morale has improved and culture is getting better.

Cons

Lighting business has been down because the management focussed on short-term goals by bringing too many products too quickly without putting quality management systems in place. Silo'd culture. Many engineers have left in the last couple of years. No talent development initiatives.

Employees treated badly in the past

Pros

Great employees, advanced technology, great LEDs

Cons

This is 2 years ago and may have changed since the new CEO took over, but when I was there employees couldn't have been treated worse. Pay scale was below regional average; During ice covered roads that shutdown almost all of Raleigh/Durham, employees calling out were given occurrences for missing work; Employees eligible for promotions denied position, then were asked to train new person brought in from outside for the same position they were denied for; Cafeteria did not supply even salt/pepper and later employees were told if they want coffee they had to bring their own cups; When 16 of 17 employees asked that night shift (12hrs) was night changed from 4-3/3-4 to 2-2-3 they were told at company meeting that that was absolutely possible if it were found to be a majority preference. One week later were told to deal with it, it wasn't their decision.
