Toxic leadership and HR team that brushes things under the rug

Pros

Most of your team is really great, you'll become great friends with your teammates.

Cons

Leadership is really toxic or unqualified. They keep hiring people at the director level when we don't need more management, we need more do-ers, but they treat the do-ers like everyone is in a junior position and like their ideas don't matter. There's no sense of communication at all and leadership does not advocate for their teams. Leadership is too focused on how they look (if you can't read their mind you make them look like a failure) and are really quick to blame the team instead of having a conversation. Everything is passed off as "drama" - even when you have very legitimate concerns. Each quarter it seems like these leaders have a new target, someone to blame, berate, belitte, etc. They won't give you your goals until the absolute last minute, will cut your bonus just because they can and refuse to have a discussion with you about it. People have gone to HR and they have done nothing but sweep it under the rug and promote these people. Hopeless.

All feedback is important to us. One of my responsibilities is to ensure that all employees feel valued and appreciated. If you feel we are falling short of that, I would strongly encourage you to reach out to me individually to discuss these concerns. – Steve Pemberton, CHRO

Pros

Office space and peers are great- If you have to go to Framingham, it’s a nice office.

Cons

Senior leadership is junior league. We have an issue keeping good leadership. There’s little to no diversity (race, women, etc.) in sales leadership. Lots of vulgar swearing and lots of male bravado.

While we are truly disheartened to read your comments, we encourage you to talk with our HR team, as we do welcome all feedback. We have an open-door policy, without fear of retaliation, and encourage anyone with concerns like this to approach our HR team so we have a chance to address or remediate the situation as necessary. And I am personally available to you as well. What makes Globoforce and our culture special is being unafraid to tackle important issues, even if the impact to the business isn’t immediate. We are steadfast in our belief and united in our mission to make workplaces more human. And, our employees can attest to the fact that we certainly believe in practicing what we preach. We are consistently ranked on the Great Place to Work and The Boston Globe Best Places to work lists in both Europe and North America. So while we are not perfect, we are fiercely committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and that effort is led by our highly engaged and deeply committed CEO. Here are some facts relative to gender diversity: More than 50 percent of our employees in the U.S. are women. More than 50 percent of our employees at the executive/director level are women. Like all companies seeking to focus on these areas, we have committed to getting more involved in the support of STEM education for young girls and will be part of the change that is needed to address the hiring challenges faced. In addition, we have recently formed the Globoforce Women’s Network. This group, that enjoys involvement from all levels throughout the company, will be a sounding board for our team members and will allow us to define our strengths and address any opportunities. I would encourage your participation in that group. If you would like to talk about your concerns, please reach out to me directly or a member of the HR team.

Pros

Colleague support is phenomenal, good benefits, bright yet calming and collaborative workspace, great work/life balance

Cons

The company has so many leaders in so many parts of the organization from the top all the way to the first level of managers that are not people managers and are not being properly trained to be people managers. For a place that prides itself on working human, it's quite the contradiction. There is then lack of trust and respect for leadership. It makes the day to day more difficult to put up with. It's really sad to see as it could be an extraordinary company.
