Rip off cut throat sales

Pros

decent if you get a good management team as there was loads of money flying about in kitchens

Cons

you get a bad manager and they dictate how much you earn due to the pay structure. Everything is set up to try to avoid paying you any commission. To the point that you can be basically earing next to minimum wage here when you are expected to work you guts off and your treated like rubbish and its the end of the world every shift if your not shaking down the old lady you've sat an appointment with. Terrible environment really. A rip off for the customers and the staff.

Not the best job security

Pros

- people are friendly - hours are good not too early or too late shifts - they provide you with training - can earn commission

Cons

While the pros seem great the cons to me aren’t worth it. You see what they fail to tell you up front and you have to read the small print in your contract is you are on a “probationary period” for two years which means at any point in these two years they can let you go or terminate your contract without any good reason and can use the excuse “we have decided to end your probation period” it’s so they can lay off staff whenever they want. The Job itself is fine it’s greeting potential customer’s showing them round and booking in appointments to get sales. But the issue is the job as a sales advisor is only at weeks ends you can work in the week but have to request overtime. And they over staff the sales advisors. The store isn’t ever busy really it’s a lot of standing around and waiting so really you only need between 2-3 sales advisors in at any one time but they hire and have in 6-7 which is at least double what is needed. They do this to have you essentially fight for customers if you are a nice person and considerate this isn’t for you but if you are cut throat and aren’t afraid to walk over your colleagues to get sales you’ll do well here, they only hire you to fire you if your not the top performer and that’s usually the person who isn’t afraid to be pushy and tread on peoples toes. In the end it’s usually only two people left and they are usually the people who have been there the longest as they have the most experience.

Hi there, thank you so much for leaving us this review! It's great to hear that you found real positives from working for the UK's No.1 Retail business to work for. In regards to the probationary period, this isn't 2 years and this isn't in any of our employees contracts as our company probationary period is a shorter length of time, the 2 years you are referring to is a part of employment law from the government. Our dedicated sales professionals work across a number of shifts, with our Sales Consultants having a number of different patterns of work to accomodate, and our Information Advisors work on a Saturday and Sunday in the showroom which is included in our job adverts and discussed at interview stage with all candidates. We wish you all the best with your future career!

Pros

You can leave the job.

Cons

Rushed through the Health and Safety Induction. But they can't wait to get your signatures at the bottom of each legal document. Grammar mistakes throughout the health and safety slideshow. I'm not the best speller, but I'd have thought these things would be proofread. Feedback forms are given to you by the instructor straight after the induction. And you feel under pressure not to offend (as they are passed back to them, with your name on top). Make them anonymous, and to be dropped in a box. You'll get a much more accurate reflection. Breathing Apparatus is given to some, but not all (not enough to go around). Due to the exposure of Silicon dust this poses a great health risk. Covid 19 shielding is poor to non-existant around the entire facility. Asked to use dangerous equipment almost immediately without adequate training. Morning meetings conducted entirely in Polish, with no efforts made thereafter to translate into English. 30 minute break for lunch, but everything is a 10 minute walk away. You feel like just another number from the minute you arrive. One Polish worker assured me "there's no such thing as indispensible, if you want to leave, someone will be in the door as soon as you leave". Despite making all of the above aware to the management, none of my issues were taken seriously, and nothing done to tackle them. No direct number for HR or Payroll. Finding their email addresses was an uphill battle. On the day of my induction I was asked to come in wearing a smart shirt, smart trousers and shoes. Yet was taken into the Quartz Work Area without the correct PPE. No earplugs, safety shoes or mask offered or checked to be wearing. Was not asked to be clean shaven, in order to be put through a breathing test. When i was eventually put through it, no explanation was given throughout, to explain what the test was for, or what was being used.
