Pros

The people are great, always willing to help and support one another, the office space is very pleasant

Cons

Upper management keep making decisions that drasticly affect morale and ways of working without getting input from the people on the ground. However there are signs that they are seeking to improve this

Pleasant people, but a tangle of internal issues

Pros

Line managers are thoughtful and compassionate, and emphasise work-life balance. A good level of respect for employee independence. Development teams genuinely care about team success and helping each other out. Very little rivalry or office politics to worry about at team level. Anyone in the department will pause or book in an opportunity to help if someone is struggling. A feeling of "we'll do anything for our clients", and code quality is well enforced in new code with multiple human reviewers and high automated testing coverage requirements. No shortage of ways to communicate with senior people in the company. Comprehensive, history-disregarded private healthcare coverage is a somewhat unusual benefit for the UK and is extremely well received.

Cons

Most recent CEO has been partially eroding the hybrid working benefits, and was dismissive and blunt about the changes. Senior management requests plenty of feedback on all kinds of topics, but that feedback tends to vanish into action groups and ongoing discussions. It feels like they're genuinely trying but there's not much real impact. Legacy codebase is challenging to work with, being the amassed culmination of a vast number of contributions from well over a decade. Technical debt in general is very high: client bugs are dealt with promptly, but less critical oddities, internal annoyances, build warnings, and other such daily frustrations are accepted as just being too low priority to resolve. This doesn't seem sustainable. Development career progression is not smooth. New senior roles have been created but moving into them is very binary. Annual review outcomes are crucial to progression, and it is very hard to meaningfully advance outside that window.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review, and thank you for your service to Xceptor. We’re delighted to hear that you’ve experienced a supportive and collaborative environment within our development teams, and that our emphasis on work-life balance, code quality, and healthcare benefits resonates positively. We also appreciate your constructive feedback regarding hybrid working, legacy code challenges, and career progression. These are important areas, and while we may not always get things right immediately, we are committed to listening, learning, and improving. Whilst we have no plans to remove our hybrid working arrangements, your advice to focus more on refining our existing codebase and trusting teams with their resources is well taken and aligns with ongoing internal discussions.

Pros

I’ve been in the role for about three months now, and I’m really glad I made the move. From the start, the people have been welcoming, collaborative, and always happy to jump in and help. There’s a genuine team vibe here that makes a big difference day to day. One thing that’s really stood out is how open and transparent leadership is. You always feel like you know what’s going on at a company level, and there’s a clear sense of direction and purpose. It creates a lot of trust and alignment across the board. What’s been most exciting for me is how open the team is to product innovation and good practices. There’s a real appetite for doing things the right way, and people are genuinely interested in building better products—not just shipping for the sake of it. I’ve already had the chance to share ideas and see them taken seriously. All in all, it’s been a great start, and I’m feeling confident about the path ahead. In summary, my list of pros: • Friendly, helpful teammates • Transparent and approachable leadership • Positive, collaborative culture • Strong focus on doing product well • Plenty of room to grow and contribute

Cons

Nothing major so far - long may it continue.
