Pros

Lots of hard-working rank and file. If senior leadership is replaced with top-flight US execuitives, the company could really fly! Havant is not where it's happening, but it's still "headquarters".

Cons

UK headquarters are behind the times. Nothing innovatives comes out of Havant. Aging IBMers who live in a vacuum are the rule in Havant, UK. They just don't get it when it comes to investing in systems and processes.

Pros

Xyratex is a good place to work if you want to meet nice people. The pension is OK and the company can be quite flexible to your personal needs. Training is a benefit if your manager see's fit.

Cons

The middle management is questionable to say the least. Confusion as to who does what is creeping in and tension is building throughout the company due to re-structuring. Empty promises are an everyday occurrence now. Rewarding hard working employees for their contributions seems to have diminished over the past few years, and even when a promise is made, it gets pushed further back and back until eventually forgotten about. Employees don't care as much any more due to lack of recognition.

Pros

Cutting edge projects starting at ideas creation through to implementation. Great people to work with day to day, I miss my old team.

Cons

There is an ethos in line management of knowledge being power. Information stops in the middle, I know it comes from the top and then simply stops in the mind of the middle manager. These same middle managers take the ideas of staff, rubbish them, and then present them as their own. The kind of attitude that makes politicians look honest.
