Pros

- Stipend is pretty competitive and makes most places to live affordable in New Haven - New Graduate Career Services merger with Undergraduate Career Services has opened up literally thousands of new doors for employer searches - Broader Yale community open to lateral movements from science to business to teaching

Cons

- New Haven as a function of being a smaller city just cannot compete with neighboring NYC and Boston - Typical graduate school experience of being at the whims of advisors. Committee system only applicable to some degrees and sometimes the committees are packed with people favorable only to advisors; not the best interest of students. But Yale should not strive for a middle of the pack graduate student experience; it should aim much higher.

Pros

Yale hosts an incredible array of events and training opportunities. You truly get to learn from and interact with global leaders in all kinds of fields. The campus is beautiful and the resources immense.

Cons

Many people in my area have very poor work life balance. Although there are many resources, because of cutbacks almost 1000 support positions have disappeared in the last few years and many people are now overworked. Simultaneously, there are many people duplicating work because they fear redundancy. The unwillingness to collaborate results in a very competitive atmosphere, were individuals become territorial and there is an incredible lack of efficiency. The atmosphere of competition creates a sense of isolation. This is especially unfortunate because there are enormously talented people at Yale and the potential for innovation in Higher Education is huge, if only people would work together more.
