Pros

Great environment -- smart people, stimulating, lots of free lectures and talks by anyone you can imagine. Excellent benefits. though some are being phased out or lessened for new employees

Cons

It's very decentralized and can be frustrating. If you are looking for everything to make sense and be orderly, that will depend on how cohesive and well run your own work unit is. Lots of variation in the quality of the management. Very good senior leadership but not focused on understanding and motivating staff (as opposed to faculty). Mobility is difficult once you rise in the ranks.

Postdoc at Yale

Pros

There are many high profile professors, and, of course, Yale has an immediate name recognition associated with it. Just make sure to pick your lab and mentor wisely.

Cons

Postdocs aren't considered employees and receive benefits that are terrible in comparison to real employees (students get much better healthcare benefits too).
