Egoistical Founders

Pros

Coworkers are good, but the cons far outweigh the pros.

Cons

The founders are definitely intelligent people. Unfortunately raw intelligence doesn’t mean they also have business sense and leadership skills. Very often, when they are confronted with disagreements from employees, their only solution is to fire those employees instead of reasoning with them. I have seen perfectly capable, hard working people get fired just because they asked challenging yet well meaning questions. It seems their goal of starting this company is to serve their own ego. Almost all of the founding team who were here at the beginning couldn’t take it anymore and left, including CTO’s own best friend. Most of the department heads have turned over multiple times. If you are thinking about joining, good luck.

Pros

- The company is fully remote, which offers a lot of flexibility and a healthy work-life balance. - You'll work with advanced AI technologies and build awesome stuff at the forefront of innovation. - The team is filled with passionate individuals who are genuinely excited about their work. - Employees are encouraged to prototype and demo their own innovations, which often influence the company's roadmap. - There are regular retros where employee feedback is actively taken into account. - The recent Series B fundraising provides financial stability and resources for scaling initiatives. Company has investor confidence for future growth.

Cons

- There's an ongoing challenge to find the right balance between building new features and addressing technical debt or refining existing systems. - The fast-paced startup environment might be overwhelming if you prefer a more structured or slower-paced workplace. - The company is evolving from a research-oriented startup to one that is finding product-market fit. Some team members are still adjusting to operating within a more mature organization, which can lead to occasional growing pains. (Edit after reading some of the other reviews: A lot of the negative reviews appear to be from former employees who are no longer with the company. Up-leveling talent means making some hard choices. If you're looking to be part of a dynamic team that's shaping the future of AI productivity, You.com is a great place to be!)

Good Vibe, Lots of Potential

Pros

The people at YDC are motivated, talented and generally have good attitudes. Obviously the pressure looks different for every team - engineers and product feel it the most but people seem genuinely happy to be building a great groundbreaking product. My experience on the Ops team has been nothing but positive and I hope to continue to grow with the company.

Cons

The CEO and executive team have high expectations of their employees and for this reason turnover can be high at times. Ultimately I think the founders are very decisive leaders which I appreciate but I can understand how that feels or comes across to other areas of the business. It feels like YDC is going through growing pains right now which is to be expected and I think we’re all wondering how we will weather the storm.
